I turned this bat the other day out of the last billet I have in the studio (there’s a new batch coming in tomorrow!). I had a bad feeling about it from the get go, there were a few areas of discoloration on the outside, and the end grain had some well. As it turned out (pun intended), the bat ended up being two tone.
While this ends up looking great, and with no research to back up my claim, I’m going to go ahead and say this bat makes it past hitting some balls in batting practice. Hence the plain old finish. It would make a nice display bat, but what, my friend, is the fun in a display bat?
I did however change the knob slightly. It’s almost perfect, but needs a few tweaks (larger diameter knob, a little more thickness on the bottom), thought it is a great size to drop a pinky over without it digging into your palm. Grainy ISO iPhone camera photo go!!!!!:
Well, that’s it for now. I’ll post a vintage sign barn style door I’m making in a few!
Cheers,
Shaun M. Baer
