So, the winter has been a bit ho-hum. I’m sure you could tell by the lack of posts. And if you considered that maybe I was done with this here blog, you were wrong. Not that I gave much of a reason for you to think otherwise!
There was a bit of a winter void this year for a few reasons.
1) Snow. There was too damn much of it. When you drive a two wheel, rear wheel drive truck, everything is terrifying until you park. So I didn’t get out to the studes too much.
2) Lack of heat. The furnace at the studio blew, and at one point all of my glue bottles had a thin layer of ice.
But, like baseball, I always tend to come back in the spring.
A few weeks ago I got around to making a hard effort in cleaning up and organizing everything. The studio was shining, ready for me to make a mess. So I did.
Melissa had wanted to reorganize her office and make a new desk for a few weeks. We went to the studio with the intent to just cut a few plywood panels, paint them, and have those be desk surfaces. As luck would have it, a person moving out of the studio building when we were there, and gifted us a sweet chunk of butcher block. After calming myself down, I welded together some 1×3 steel tubing into legs, bolted them on, and boom: an easy piece of awesome was completed.

The last photo is a crappy closeup of the top. It has tons of scratches and dents, even a few imprints of screws. All of the imperfections are dirty and black, perfectly vintaged the way only time can do those things.
It’s strange how sometimes the easiest things are the most beautiful things.
That’s all for now, I have a coffee table in the works, so there should be more coming soon.
I love you.
Cheers,
Shaun M. Baer
