So, it’s been quite a while, dear internet! Things have been pretty busy in ways that do not involve working in the studio as of late, primarily due to that awful summertime phenomenon called “heat”. And for a stretch there, it was pretty awful. Glue turned to water; tool surfaces hot and sweaty without even being used; sawdust sticking to beads of sweat. Just bad news in general.

But alas, as a result of slow moving projects, the blog has suffered as well, and I thought it about time to post a few prototype photos from a month or so ago and give a few thought process updates. And cue photo:

Thar she is. The Man in Black, or at least that’s the currently title, wrapped with a plaid seat. As far as the prototyping process goes, it seems to me the back an inch or two too short, the seat needs to be tilted a few more degrees, and I really need to consider inter-leg support. So, it’s almost there.

As far as the long term plan, I have dubbed the chair “Replicant” with plans to invite friends to design chairs, meaning, choose colors, fabrics, a few of the materials, etc., though the basic skeleton will remain the same.  After the next round (or rounds, depending on what plays out) of prototyping is complete, Hopefully you might see some of those designs start creeping out.

So there that is! Hopefully I’ll be back to remembering the internet on a regular basis. A recent studio cleanup has the studes looking pretty nice, so maybe I’ll take a few shots of that….but we’ll just have to see about that.

Cheers,
Shaun Baer
