Well, there he is, folks: The Bare Englishman. Assembly is now pretty much complete. I attached the base, finished up all of the drawers, and cut the shelf. Now the only cut to worry about is my shellac. Oh, clever woodworking jokes.
That’s the shelf on the bottom of the opening there. Perhaps I got to excited when I said assembly was complete: I still have to install the threaded rod corner support and drill the holes for the adjustable pins. But that doesn’t really count…
Drawer stack!
All 8 drawers are complete and DVD ready. The faces are attached to the sides L Lock joints, which I have grown considerably speedy at making. When I left for the day, I lined all 8 next to each other on the top to keep everything flat, and lo:
Somehow, by pure accident, I created some kind of awesome, godly proportion. All of the drawers lined up are the same length as the top. I’m sure that means something to some numerologist or mathematician, or maybe not.
The only thing left is sanding and figuring out a finish schedule, which at this point is shaping up to be three coats of a 1 lb cut Orange Shellac, and then Varnish on the walnut, one coat Orange Shellac and Varnish on the birch, and who knows what on the top. I still have some research to do on that front.
Cheers,
Shaun
